MARBLE & ALABASTER BUST OF A LADY, EARLY 20TH CENT. BY GUSTAVE VAN VAERENBERGH
This lovely Marble and Alabaster Bust of a Lady, early 20th century was created by Gustave Van Vaerenbergh. A refined and beautifully executed bust depicting a young woman wearing a draped garment and headscarf. The sculpture masterfully combines smooth white marble for the face and neck with richly veined lilac and cream alabaster for the clothing and head covering, creating a striking contrast in colour and texture. The artist’s delicate handling of expression and form showcases the grace and serenity typical of Van Vaerenbergh’s work.
The bust rests on an integral alabaster base and is presented in very good condition, with only minor wear consistent with age. An elegant and timeless example of Belgian Art Nouveau sculpture, ideal for display in both classic and contemporary interiors. Signed by the artist Gustave Van Vaerenbergh, (Belgian, 1873–1927)
