This Vernis Martin cabinet, so called because of the paintings that decorate the lower panels, was made in France towards the end of 19th century. It is purpleheart, mounted with ormolu, and has pastoral scenes and a "gallant" in a golden palette with in ormolu frames. The interior has glass shelves and a mirrored back to give lightness and the better to display the contents.
