This unusual piece of furniture is a Victorian plant stand. It is made of walnut with an inlaid burr walnut surface and patterned frosted glass to the back. The idea being that the glass panel serves to protect wall coverings or curtain fabric from being stained by pollen, or indeed from the smoke of a candle or lamp.
