Mathurin Moreau Bronze

DSCI1760.JPG

This wonderful bronze, by the celebrated artist Mathurin Moreau, Dijon 1822-Paris 1912,is a beautiful tour de force of the sculptors art. Turning it around on its marble base, as was the intention of the artist, the subject seems to change and move. The young lady is emblematic of Spring, her nakedness implying a warming atmosphere and her obvious youth and vigour symbolising the freshness and promise of her season.
A cherub is placed weightlessly at her feet offering her lilacs and a pair of swallows with their allusion to early Summer spin around ankles, adding to the sense of animation.
She is beautifully patinated and in a great state of preservation.
