This bust, by Emmanuel Villanis (Lille 1858 - Paris 1914), is entitled "Capture". It shows the head and shoulders of a slave girl with a manacle and chain attached to her arm, all on an intergal socle. The sculptor has given her an air of defiance, independence almost, despite her captive state. The patination is marvellous, with hints of red and green, and the overall condition is excellent.
