This charming alabaster was made in Italy towards the end of the 19th century. It depicts two young lovers in Russian peasant costume, just in the act of kissing. The shawl, clogs and simple astrakahn hat, along with the way he is sitting on a one of his legs, the hand of her supporting arm spread out, lend this composition a most tender intimate air.
