This elegant bust of a young lady was made in Italy in mid 19th century. She is carved from the purest alabaster and she stands on a socle of Brescia marble. She has a scroll of music and a quill, and her hair, which is immaculately carved in the style of the 1830s is dressed with a wreath of laurel leaves, indicating that the subjest is Euterpe, one of the Nine Muses, the one responsible for music and lyrical poetry.
